Every individual person is extraordinary in his or her own way. Unfortunately, some people do not understand why they are extraordinary and never have the possibility to find their remarkable talents. At Counterpane, each child is given the opportunity to search for what he or she loves to do. They truly find out what type of person they are and what talents they have by exploring so many different content areas and pastimes. While this is just a few, here are some examples of this search:
One student has totally altered his eating and sleep patterns in order to become a better swimmer.
There are many amazing artists in this school. Here is one example:
Two students are interns in the medical field: acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine.
Two students are voluntarily in two separate literature classes in order to study the books Gone with the Wind and Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. This requires double reading, double preparation, and double classes.
We want students to know what they are passionate about and what talents they are in the process of discovery. Very few adolescents have the opportunity to explore such a variety of areas. Many never have the freedom to see what they truly love to do. This experience allows children to understand who they are and where their talents lie. Setting the students of Counterpane in a constant path of discovery allows them to have a liberating adventure throughout childhood and life.
