What Color Is Africa?

The ride home from school on the first day is always one of my favorites. I asked my daughter about her class.“Nobody new,” she said. “Nobody knew what?” I asked. Then I ran down the list of all her friends and was thrilled to hear everyone was back – even a good friend we thought we’d lost. And all her teachers were back, and the animals were fine, and Norman was there for carpool – like always. We’re starting our 10th year at Counterpane, so coming back from summer break feels a little like returning from a long vacation. It’s great to get away, but it feels good to be back home, too.
The most interesting thing I heard about from Upper School on Monday was that they played “Counterpane Trivia”. Anna was proud of how many answers she got right.
They played a game of tic-tac-toe using students as markers (Anna was an “O”). When you got an answer right you got to put a person on the tic-tac-toe board. Anna was the only one on her team who knew what colors Africa and North America were on the Counterpane t-shirt, and why we call it the Nabi theater, and what the sheep’s name was. Very fun.
