Counterpane School is one of very few Montessori programs in the United States that extends the Montessori philosophy from preschool through high school. The school is small, individualizing, non-graded until Upper School, and strictly college preparatory. Counterpane’s campus is on 14 wooded acres with organic gardens and farm animals.

Counterpane is dedicated to the purest Montessori education and engages only teachers trained by Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) or the American Montessori Society (AMS) at the primary and elementary level. Counterpane is a member of the Coalition of Essential Schools (CES), and is accredited by the Georgia Accrediting Commission (GAC).

Counterpane graduated its first seniors in 1991. All of our graduates have enjoyed acceptance to four-year colleges or universities. To date, 90% of our graduates have received undergraduate degrees or are currently studying in an undergraduate program. Of those who have undergraduate degrees, 40% have gone on to graduate study.

Our graduates hold degrees from: Auburn University, Boston College, Bowdoin College, Brown University, Carnegie Mellon University, Claremont McKenna College, Colorado State University, Columbia University, Cornell University, Emory University, Georgia Institute of Technology, Georgia State University, Macalester College, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (M.I.T.), New Mexico School of Mining and Technology, Penn State University, Princeton University, Sweet Briar College, University of Georgia, and University of North Carolina.
